Sponsoring Departments of the College of Agricultural and Enviromental Sciences: Horticulture is the art and science of growing fruits, nuts, vegetables and ornamentals. The ornamental horticulture industry is forecasted to be more than a billion dollar industry in Georgia by the year 2000. Georgia scientists maintain their national leadership role in new pot, cut flower, and landscape plant selection, propagation, and production research. Training in horticulture will prepare you for success in a variety of fields – from sales to research. Crop and Soil Scientists are responsible for the world's food, feed, and fiber supply while conserving our soil and water resources. Be able to enjoy the outdoors with a career in turfgrass management. Emphasis is on sensible management practices that will protect our soil and water resources for future generations. Environmental soil scientists focus on safeguarding and improving the quality of water and soil to insure a safe environment for human, animal and plant life. Plant Pathologist study the diseases that limit the production of food, fiber and forage. These diseases cause nearly $500 million in damage to crops in Georgia last year. Students in the Plant Protection and Pest Management major study, Plant Pathology, the discipline concerned with the cause, nature, and management of plant diseases. If you are interested in the biological sciences and wish to do something useful and practical in the future, the Plant Protection and Pest Management major may be for you. and Department of Entomology will be joining us this year.
